Feathered Sanctuary Unveiled: GZSCCET Alumnus Er. Deepinder Singh Presents Unique Bird House in Bathinda…

Bathinda, April 26

An enthusiastic nature lover and accomplished engineer, Er. Deepinder Singh an alumnus of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (MRSPTU) has unveiled a remarkable initiative aimed at safeguarding avian life in Bathinda.

An alumnus of GZSCCET, Electrical Engineering (Batch 2006-2010) and presently  serving as the director of Jay Ess Industrial Gases Private Limited, Bathinda, Er. Deepinder Singh's dedication to nature culminated in the creation of a towering avian sanctuary, aptly named the Bird House.

This towering structure standing at an impressive 60 feet is designed to accommodate over 1,000 birds offering them respite from adverse weather conditions and a permanent haven.

Inspired by his experiences in Rajasthan, where similar structures provide refuge due to the scarcity of tall trees, Er. Deepinder Singh embarked on this noble endeavor.

The genesis of this project stems from the unfortunate displacement of numerous birds due to the renovation of the Multania flyover in Bathinda. Recognizing the need for intervention, Er. Deepinder Singh, alongside his partners, including Mr. Jaspal Singh Sidhu, Managing Director, and civil works experts Mr. Gurmeet Singh and Sanjay Tanwar, conceptualized and executed a plan to provide a sanctuary for these displaced avian residents.

Utilizing innovative pre-fabricated kits sourced from Gujarat, the team ensured the construction of a durable, weather-resistant structure.

As a permanent member of the National Safety Council, Govt. Of India, Er. Deepinder Singh's expertise ensured that the Bird House adhered to the highest safety standards.

With an estimated cost of Rs. 10 lakhs, funded by Er. Deepinder Singh and fellow nature enthusiasts, the Bird House stands as a testament to the importance of preserving avian habitats. Embracing a familial ethos, Er. Deepinder Singh dedicated this noble endeavor to his daughters, Hevinjot Kaur and Alvinjot Kaur, fostering a legacy of environmental stewardship for future generations.

Furthermore, Er. Deepinder Singh also pays honour to his father, S. Nachhtar Singh Jhuttika and Grandfather Sardar Jagga Singh underscoring the significance of familial bonds and a connection to nature. He also thanked Jaswinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Amarjit Singh for their nice support for the venture. His vision extends beyond this singular project, as he endeavors to inspire others to follow suit in safeguarding our natural world.

The initiative has garnered praise from various quarters, including MRSPTU, Registrar Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, and Corporate Resource Center, Professor Incharge Dr. Rajesh Gupta, who commended Er. Deepinder Singh's ingenuity and pledged support for similar initiatives. The Bird House has already become a focal point for nature enthusiasts and bird lovers alike, symbolizing a harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

World Environment Day: Tree plantation drive and Environment Awareness Week to mark celebration at MRSPTU-

Bathinda, June 4

To mark the World Environment Day (June 5), a massive tree plantation drive was organized in the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda on Friday. This drive was part of the Environmental Awareness Week which is being celebrated by the university.

MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu, Registrar, Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, GZSCCET, Campus director, Dr. Savina Bansal and senior officials of the university inaugurated the plantation drive and flagged off tractor-trailers carrying different varieties of trees for plantation in different villages and Bathinda city.  Plantation was also carried out by different departments of the university in the campus premises on Friday.

NSS in-charge, Dr. Meenu said that the various varieties of plants including Sheesham, Amaltas, Gulmohar, Toot, Dek, Neem, Kachnar, Guava  and Jamun etc. will be planted during the week.

Giving details, Dr. Meenu said that during the Awareness week, National Service Scheme (NSS), Programme officers, volunteers and environment friendly alumni of the Institute will take part in this initiative of environment concern. They will carry out plantation drives in Chak Bakhtu, Chak Fateh Singh Wala, Chak Ram Singh Wala, Kartarpur  Thande,  Lehra Mohabbat and Punjab Institute of Technology (PIT), Nandgarh .

June 5 has been celebrated as World Environment Day every year since 1972 when the United Nations General Assembly established this day on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on Human Environment. Two years later in 1974, World Environment Day was celebrated for the first time with the theme: "Only One Earth" and since then it is celebrated all over the world with full enthusiasm.

Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu expressed concern over the dire consequences of deforestation which is quite rampant in the current trends of urbanization, Industrialization and consumerism.    He said the new generation should cultivate eco-friendly living as a culture.

“The pure air and water are the rights of the coming generation. No development is possible by destroying nature. Not only June 5, should every day be environmental protection day,” said Prof. Sidhu while urging  everyone to make their living style and practice nature friendly by  growing  more and more trees. He lauded the efforts of NSS units in arranging such events of environmental protection and spreading the awareness among the students.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India selected MRSPTU  with Swachhta  Award under “One District One Green Champion” Award for clean green environment of the campus.

The programme (online and offline mode) was aimed to inspire the students in promoting scientific temper and sharing the significance of scientific applications in our daily life with practical examples.

Live Aero modelling show by  Shri Yadwinder Singh Khokhar of Siryewala was a great success and kept the students spellbound. While Arshdeep Sharma from IISER, Mohali displayed Drone and Bluetooth technology based projects like Quadcopter and  Bluetooth car, which got appreciation from the students. Live Science show also included go kart/car rally-project, Project exhibition- live demonstration and basic science live experiments.

Dr. Singh remembered the dedication, determination and untiring efforts of great scientists like Dr. A.P. J. Abdul Kalam, who are India’s pride. While remembering great women of the World, Dr. Singh  also  described the story of the incredible woman who laid the foundation of AIIMS – Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur (India’s first health minister hailing from the princely state of Kapurthala), who set up India’s premier public institution for healthcare.

Prof. (Rtd.) Swarandeep Singh Hundal, Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana gave various tips for success in life and career. He pointed out that behind each success is a story of tremendous commitment and perseverance.
