The Department of Physics was established as independent department in 2012. Earlier it was a part of Department of Applied Sciences in Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology since 1989 which used to cater the needs of engineering students. Since the inception of the Department, Post-Graduate course in M.Sc. Physics was started in 2012 and now from session 2019-2020, the B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics has been started. The Department further expand into various specialisation in Physics. It has come up as good research and development centre in this region. Major strength of the department is its Faculty having vast teaching and research experience within India and abroad. Department also offers Ph.D. program (full time and part time) in specialised areas: Radiation Physics, Nuclear Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Nontechnology, Ferroelectric Ceramics, Polymer Composite Films, Theoretical Physics.
